　　吃火雞的由來一

　　1620年，英國一批主張改革的清教徒，因理想和抱負(fù)不能實現(xiàn)而退出國教，自立新教，此舉激起了英國當(dāng)政者的仇恨。這些清教徒們不堪承受統(tǒng)治者的迫害和歧視，先逃到荷蘭，9月初，乘船遠(yuǎn)渡重洋，準(zhǔn)備流亡美國。船在波濤洶涌的大海中漂泊了65天，于11月終于到達(dá)了美國東海岸，在羅得島州的普羅維斯敦港登陸。

　　In 1620, a group of Puritans in Britain who advocated reforms withdrew from the state religion because of their unsatisfied ideals and ambitions, and became independent of the Protestantism. This act aroused the hatred of the British incumbents. These Puritans could not withstand the persecution and discrimination of the rulers. They fled to the Netherlands first. In early September, they sailed across the ocean and prepared to go into exile in the United States. The ship wandered for 65 days in the rough sea and finally reached the east coast of the United States in November, landing in the port of Providence, Rhode Island.
