It is a fact that the earth is suffering from serious environmental problems and I’d like to offer the following suggestions: First of all, as water shortage is a universal problem in many parts of the world, I suggest that everyone should conserve freshwater resources by reducing our daily consumption. Secondly, big cities in the developing world are the victims of air pollution, so the less use of private cars is a way out. We could take some public transportation, such as metro and bus instead.

雖然都是保護(hù)，但3者仍有些許不同：

A. protect somebody/something/yourself (against/from something)意思是：to make sure that somebody/something is not harmed, injured, damaged, etc.保護(hù)某人或某物不受到傷害

例如：to protect rare wild animals from extinction 保護(hù)珍稀野生動(dòng)物免于滅絕

B. preserve somebody/something (from something) 意思是：to keep somebody/something alive, or safe from harm or danger 保護(hù)某人或某物活著或免于受傷，其同義詞是save

例如：The society was set up to preserve endangered species from extinction.

成立這個(gè)協(xié)會(huì)是為了保護(hù)瀕危物種不致滅絕。

C. conserve something意思是： to use as little of something as possible so that it lasts a long time 盡可能地少用某物以便讓它可以持續(xù)很長(zhǎng)時(shí)間(這其實(shí)是對(duì)于不可再生能源的一種保護(hù))

例如：Renewable energy resources can help conserve fossil fuels and reduce carbon emissions.可再生能源有利于保護(hù)化石燃料并減少碳排放。

Pt的補(bǔ)充: 為啥要減少碳排放呢?因?yàn)闇厥覛怏w【greenhouse gas】排放到大氣中會(huì)破壞臭氧層，從而造成全球變暖【global warming】)

4) reduce our daily consumption 減少日常的消耗，the less use of private cars 減少對(duì)于私家車的使用，這里Alyssa為我們示范了兩種表示“減少”的方式。

Pt的補(bǔ)充：如果想說：減少對(duì)于化石燃料的使用，可以說【curb】 the consumption of fossil fuel.這里的curb的準(zhǔn)確翻譯應(yīng)該是“遏制”，英文含義to control or limit something, especially something bad因?yàn)槿紵剂蠒r(shí)會(huì)釋放大量的二氧化碳，對(duì)環(huán)境不利，所以我們用curb很準(zhǔn)確。但如果有同學(xué)想說減少對(duì)于稀缺水資源的消耗，用curb the consumption of scarce water resource 就不合適啦，因?yàn)槭褂盟Y源并沒有什么害處呀~ 故學(xué)單詞不要只看中文釋義，請(qǐng)一定要查看英英詞典，看英文釋義才能理解得更準(zhǔn)確哦~
