'Perfume, eh?'he asked sarcastically.
'You should have declared that. Perfume is not exempt from import duty.'
'But it isn't perfume,' I said.' It's hair-oil.' Then I added with a smile,'It's a strange mixture I make myself.'
As I expected, he did not believe me.
'Try it!' I said encouragingly.
The Officer unscrewed the cap and put the bottle to his nostrils. He was greeted by an unpleasant smell which convinced him that I was telling the truth.
2.Know better than to do sth 表示不會(huì)笨到做某事的地步；應(yīng)該不會(huì)去做某事
eg:I know better than to do such a thing.我不會(huì)糊涂到干出這種事情來。
4.greet 呈現(xiàn)在…面前；映入…眼簾
eg:To my dismay, when I opened the door, I was greeted by a disastrous sight.
令我郁悶的是，當(dāng)我打開門，一幅災(zāi)難性的畫面映入我的眼簾。
On entering the room, I was greeted by the pleasant smell of fresh fruits.
一進(jìn)門，我就聞到新鮮水果好聞的味兒。
The first thing to greet the president after his inauguration was the global economic crisis.總統(tǒng)就職后遇到的第一件事就是全球性經(jīng)濟(jì)危機(jī)。
