托福簡(jiǎn)介

TOEFL(The Test of English as a Foreign Language,簡(jiǎn)稱TOEFL)是由美國(guó)教育測(cè)驗(yàn)服務(wù)社(ETS)舉辦的英語能力考試,全名為“檢定非英語為母語者的英語能力考試”,中文音譯為“托?!薄OEFL有三種,分別是: pbt—paper based test 紙考 677, cbt—computer based test 機(jī)考 300, ibt—internet based test 網(wǎng)考 120, 新托福滿分是120分。TOEFL考試的有效期為兩年,是從考試日期開始計(jì)算的。

新托福

2005年9月,美國(guó)教育考試服務(wù)中心ETS在全球推出了一種全新的綜合英語測(cè)試方法,即能夠反映在一流大專院校教學(xué)和校園生活中對(duì)語言實(shí)際需求的新托??荚嚕碩OEFL iBT(Internet Based Test)。

新托福由四部分組成,分別是閱讀(Reading)、聽力(Listening)、口試(Speaking)、寫作(Writing)。

閱讀(Reading):有三篇文章

與老托福不同的是,考生不需要在答題之前通讀全文,而是在做題的過程中分段閱讀文章。每篇文章對(duì)應(yīng)有11道試題,均為選擇題。除了**后一道試題之外,其他試題都是針對(duì)文章的某一部分提問,試題的出現(xiàn)順序與文章的段落順序一致。**后一題針對(duì)整篇文章提問,要求考生從多條選擇項(xiàng)中挑選若干項(xiàng)對(duì)全文進(jìn)行總結(jié)或歸納。新一代托福閱讀文章的篇幅比老托福閱讀文章的篇幅略長(zhǎng),難度也有所增加。這部分持續(xù)時(shí)間為1小時(shí),在此時(shí)限中考生可以復(fù)查、修改已遞交的答案。

聽力(Listening):取消了短對(duì)話

由兩篇較長(zhǎng)的校園情景對(duì)話和四篇課堂演講組成,課堂演講每篇長(zhǎng)約5分鐘。由于是機(jī)考,考生在聽錄音資料之前無法得知試題。在播放錄音資料時(shí),電腦屏幕上會(huì)顯示相應(yīng)的背景圖片??忌梢栽诼犚暨^程中記筆記。考生不能復(fù)查、修改已遞交的答案。這個(gè)部分持續(xù)大約50分鐘。

聽力水平無疑是新托福成功與否的關(guān)鍵,除閱讀外,無論哪一部分都離不開“聽”。對(duì)于中國(guó)考生來說,聽力卻正是薄弱環(huán)節(jié)。中國(guó)考生提高聽力的其中一條有效途徑是“聽寫法”,即把相關(guān)聽力材料拿來精聽,并把聽到的內(nèi)容逐句寫下來。也有專門用來練習(xí)新托福聽寫的軟件,如新托福聽寫王軟件?!奥爩懛ā碧岣呗犃Φ囊粋€(gè)缺點(diǎn)是,剛開始練習(xí)時(shí)可能比較費(fèi)時(shí)。

口試(Speaking):把TSE(Test of Spoken English)融合在新托福中

然而與現(xiàn)行的TSE相比又有較大改動(dòng)。這個(gè)部分共有6題,持續(xù)約20分鐘。

**、二題要求考生就某一話題闡述自己的觀點(diǎn)。

第三、四題要求考生首先在45秒內(nèi)閱讀一段短文,隨后短文隱去,播放一段與短文有關(guān)的對(duì)話或課堂演講。**后,要求考生根據(jù)先前閱讀的短文和播放的對(duì)話或課堂演講回答相關(guān)問題,考生有30秒鐘的準(zhǔn)備時(shí)間,然后進(jìn)行60秒鐘的回答。例如,短文中描述了對(duì)學(xué)校體育館進(jìn)行擴(kuò)建的兩種方案,對(duì)話中一位同學(xué)闡述了自己的立場(chǎng),即贊成哪種方案,反對(duì)哪種方案,并列舉了若干理由。要求考生敘述對(duì)話中同學(xué)的立場(chǎng)并解釋他/她列舉了哪些理由支持這一觀點(diǎn)。

第五、六題要求考生聽一段校園情景對(duì)話或課堂演講,然后回答相關(guān)問題??忌?0秒鐘的準(zhǔn)備時(shí)間,之后進(jìn)行60秒鐘的回答。例如,先播放一段市場(chǎng)學(xué)課堂演講,演講中教授列舉了兩種市場(chǎng)調(diào)查的方法,然后要求考生使用課堂演講中的觀點(diǎn)和例子描述教授列舉出的兩種市場(chǎng)調(diào)查的方法。

考生可以在聽音過程中記筆記以幫助答題。在準(zhǔn)備和答題時(shí),屏幕上會(huì)顯示倒計(jì)時(shí)的時(shí)鐘。

寫作(Writing)要求考生在1小時(shí)內(nèi)完成兩篇作文

其中一篇類似于老托福的寫作,要求考生在30分鐘內(nèi)就某一話題闡述自己的觀點(diǎn),字?jǐn)?shù)要求為300字以上。

另一篇?jiǎng)t要求考生首先閱讀一篇文章,五分鐘以后,文章隱去,播放一段與文章有關(guān)的課堂演講。課堂演講列舉了一些論據(jù)反駁文章中的論點(diǎn)、論據(jù)。隨后要求考生在20分鐘內(nèi)寫一篇作文,總結(jié)課堂演講的論點(diǎn)、論據(jù),并陳述這些論點(diǎn)、論據(jù)是如何反駁文章的論點(diǎn)、論據(jù)的,字?jǐn)?shù)要求為150字到225字之間。在寫作時(shí),文章會(huì)重新顯示在屏幕上。這篇作文不要求考生闡述自己的觀點(diǎn)。

加試

般實(shí)際考試中,考生往往會(huì)在聽力或閱讀部分碰到加試試題,也有可能閱讀、聽力兩部分同時(shí)被加試。加試部分不算分(有人說會(huì)算分,說是抽幾題給分),但考生事先并不知道哪一部分是加試部分(有的時(shí)候經(jīng)典加試是能判斷出來的),所以應(yīng)該認(rèn)真對(duì)待。

GRE,全稱Graduate Record Examination,中文名稱為美國(guó)研究生入學(xué)考試,適用于除法律與商業(yè)外的各專業(yè),由美國(guó)教育考試服務(wù)處(Educational Testing Service,簡(jiǎn)稱ETS)主辦,GRE是世界各地的大學(xué)各類研究生院(除管理類學(xué)院,法學(xué)院)要求申請(qǐng)者所必須具備的一個(gè)考試成績(jī),也是教授對(duì)申請(qǐng)者是否授予獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金所依據(jù)的**重要的標(biāo)準(zhǔn)。

GRE (Graduate Record Exam)適用于除了法律(需參加LSAT考試)與商業(yè)(需參加GMAT考)以外的各種學(xué)科與專業(yè)的研究生考試。GRE考試分兩種(平常所說GRE考試都是指General test): 一般能力或稱傾向性測(cè)驗(yàn)(General test或Aptitude Test);一般申請(qǐng)人考的都是general test。

托福寫作題目:Modern agriculture methods damage the environment, but providing food for the growing population around the world is more important than protecting the environment.(養(yǎng)活人口重要還是保護(hù)環(huán)境重要?)

托福寫作參考范文:

Modern agriculture methods like the use of pesticides and artificial fertilizers are widely used around the world. Along with such brings forth negative effects. The most obvious and detrimental impact of modern agriculture methods is environmental degradation. Many people believe that the environmental risks should not be taken into consideration since many people are suffering from the lack of food. I certainly disagree with this.

To begin with, despite the fact that there are people who suffer from starvation, the reason is not because of the lack of food. As a matter of fact, tons of grains and corns are wasted every year. If the government and the general public really care about starving people, they should have enough ability and adequate materials to offer help. People suffer just because of bad management, worldwide corruption, and terrible indifference. So there is no need to destroy wilderness areas or use environmentally-damaging agricultural methods to increase productivity. The world nowadays has more food than we need. As long as corruption and bad management are eradicated, the world would see less people starving.

Besides, the statement asserts that providing food for a growing number of people is more urgent than the protection of environment. I find this statement totally unconvincing. People’s survival depends on the environment. More often than not, whenever the environment gets damaged, the deleterious effects are always irreversible. In other words, once the environment on which we depend on is disrupted, our lives are placed at risk. Modern agriculture, although it provides enough food, has contaminated the water and soil. When people eat crops grown with polluted water and soil, diseases will break out sooner or later. Genetically modified crops, although their negative effects are not obvious and not yet confirmed, should also be treated with great care, for it is reported that dogs, cats, and other pets become sick after ingesting GM food. If human beings are negatively affected by modern agriculture, untold dire consequences will arise. People will suffer from diseases and the government will shoulder considerable medical bills. Worse, the society may become unstable and inharmonious.

From the above discussion, I can draw the conclusion that there are other more effective methods to address starvation. No matter how much food we produce, as long as corruption and wasteful use exist, there will always be starving people. Besides, a healthy natural environment is a basic requirement of our survival. We cannot increase food production at the expense of our environment, lest we are bound to suffer for our inconsideration and recklessness.
