雅思口語考試中,描述人物是很常見的題目。這類話題按理說不算難,可是考生遇到這些話題,分?jǐn)?shù)卻時(shí)常不理想。
總結(jié)一下,發(fā)現(xiàn)最大的問題在于考生在描述人物時(shí)容易走兩個(gè)極端:
一是用絕大部分時(shí)間描述人的外貌,而且語言也相當(dāng)平常;
二是完全忽略外貌,只敘述一些跟該人物有關(guān)的事情,而且內(nèi)容毫無邏輯。
真正好的答案一定是描述與敘述的結(jié)合,這是雅思口語考察的最重要的兩項(xiàng)能力。所以,推薦給大家一個(gè)被考官認(rèn)可的好的思路:
1. 個(gè)人基本信息(身份,名字,年齡)
2. 外貌
3. 性格
4. 相關(guān)的故事或經(jīng)歷
例子:
An old man
An old man I’d like to talk about is my next door neighbor who is at his 60s. I don’t know exactly about his real name, but because he likes smiling, we call him “Mr. Smile”. 本部分完成了基本信息的描述,讓考官很清晰的了解這個(gè)人的背景,他才有興趣繼續(xù)聽下去。
Mr. Smile is a man of medium build with short, silver hair and healthy complexion. What’s special about him is that he has a pair of pretty big ears which make him look very funny. 本段完成對(duì)描述能力的展示。盡量少用big, small 等稀松平常的詞匯,那只會(huì)讓考官懷疑你的詞匯量和語言能力,真正好的描述是要找出人物外表的“特點(diǎn)”,以此達(dá)到“傳神”的目的,這也是語言的較高境界。
As an easy-going and optimistic old man, Mr. Smile usually impresses others a lot by his hearty laughter. To some young people, his words are always motivating as well as convincing. 本部分是對(duì)性格的展現(xiàn)。另外,同學(xué)們習(xí)慣使用的 “kind” “nice” “happy”等詞和一些單純的并列句真的已經(jīng)太“俗”了。請(qǐng)參考上文的用詞和句式。
Mr. Smile used to study in Japan for 7 years. He came back to China when he was 26. Because of the living in Tokyo, he is really good at cooking Japanese food, especially sushi. I was invited to share his cooking before, and I was shocked by his sushi that was so fresh and delicate. I even doubt the authentic flavor can win some restaurant chefs’.
最后這部分內(nèi)容是講了一個(gè)關(guān)于老人的故事,展現(xiàn)了考生的敘事能力。故事可以奇特也可以普通,但一定要帶著感情講出來,目的是能夠感染考官。
以此思路,關(guān)于人物的卡片就迎刃而解了。
