In college, I had convinced myself that I was not good enough to act in the school play. Therefore, I decide not to audition even though drama bad always been my passion. The day of the auditions, a friend of mine asked me why I wasn't auditioning. When I told her I didn't feel I was good enough, she was shocked. Last year when I was trying to decide whether or not I should study overseas, I talked to my friend. This was the best thing I could have done. This was a big decision for me because I had never been overseas on my own and I wasn't sure I could do it. She had studied overseas the previous year. Once I ran for president of my class. Unfortunately, I lost. I lost because I did not promote myself enough. I looked at my mistakes and decided how to correct them. The following year, I ran for president again. This time I gave speeches, called voters on thephone, and banded out brochures. This time I won. Never give up. There is always another opportunity.

Once I wanted to study medicine. Unfortunately, I didn’t like science. I failed all my science courses at school. Then I realized that what I liked about medicine was helping people. Once I wanted to talk with my friend. Unfortunately, his computer was down and I couldn’t e-mail him. His phone line was busy so I couldn’t call him. Mail would take too long so I couldn’t write him. Since I really wanted to talk with him. I got on the bus and went across town to visit him. There is always another option.

If you give up, you might as well die. My advice is to always look for another opportunity, another goal, or another option. There is always something else. Don’t give up.

托福獨(dú)立寫作題目:針對(duì)2-5歲孩子的廣告應(yīng)該禁止嗎

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

Television advertising directed towards young children (aged two to five) should not be allowed.

Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

托福獨(dú)立寫作范文:英文例文

With the development of the mass media, advertisements become more attractive to many companies. Television advertising is always the most popular way to attract more customers, for it shows or illustrates the products and their functions more directly and vividly. And nowadays as parents show more love to their children, companies make allefforts to advertise directly to young children, which can "persuade" parents to pay more for their children and gain more profits. However, as far as I am concerned, I strongly believe that it is harmful to young children when television advertising directed towards to them. There are two reasons to illustrate my opinion.

First and foremost, television advertising should not be directed towards to young children, for children lack the ability to identify good or bad. The children at the age from two to five are too young to tell the good from the bad, which will lead them to make the wrong choices. As advertisement agencies are good at taking advantages of high technology, young children are easily attracted by the colorful and lively ads and are lured to buy something useless or harmful to them. For instance, the advertisements of chewing gums are always dramatic and fantastic, which easily please young children withimaging the joy of chawing those chewing gums. Then the children will keep bothering their parents for buying them chewing gums. However, since chewing gums are made of several chemical compounds which have some bad effects on children's health, young children are actually harmed by these advertisements and their products. Some young children even died because they suddenly choked when they chawed chewing gums. Therefore, to some degree, television advertising directed towards the young children is not only a waste of parent's money, but also harmful to young children's health.

In the second place, television advertising directed towards to young children means that young children are more attracted by television programmes, which is harmful to their eyesight and interfering to foster their social communications. According to some research, more and more children become shortsighted at younger age than before, because of watching television too much. In addition, as the childhood is the best and essential time to acquire basic skills, if young children are absorbed in television programmes, they will lack a lot of chances to get along with others and make new friends. This is particularly not beneficial to foster their social communication skills, which will have bad influence on their life-long development. Hence, television advertising should not be directed towards young children.

All in all, television advertising directed towards young children (aged two to five) should not be allowed, for it not only is harmful to their health, but also has bad effects on their self-development.

托福作文范文之學(xué)生比以前關(guān)心政治:

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? "Students are more interested inpolitics today than before." Use specific reasons and details to support your answer.

范文:

College students are more aware of their political power today than before, when theyput theirminds to it. Many are actually getting involved by using "voice and vote" to choose governmentofficials and make decisions about public policy. What they thinkcould really matter and couldhelp shape the future of politics.

The importance of young adults' political tendency is increasingly being felt, when it comes toelection campaigns. College students are becoming an influential constituency and it is hard tofind elections where young people's opinions are ignored. It is because their votes and voicesrepresent their age group and must be valued as such. Since their voices are heard and theirvotes count, they as students begin to feel more confident that their opinions could have animpact on some key political issues. In short, college students are gradually becoming moreenthusiastic toward the art or science of runninggovernmental affairs. So, if you think thatstudents are more interested in politics today than before, you can say that again.

The future of politics is in the making in the minds of young adults, especially students. Duringtheir free time, college students are taking part in making decisions about the studentgovernment on the campus, for instance. Partly in this way, they learn independent thinkingand debating--listening as much as speaking. In general, there is a growing awareness thatpolitics is in the best interests of people and that apathy to politics may not be the rightattitude. Thanks to the influence of information through the media, particularly television andthe Internet, they realize that modern politics means more than a bunch of old guys arguingwith each other. In fact, some of today's college students with strong political inclinations arelikely to become such "old guys" in the time to come.

It is clear that the opinions of young people (18-25 years old) are too important to bedismissed from politics because their opinions could foreshadow how thegovernmental affairswould be run in the future. The political power of students ought not to be under-estimated,now that they can have a say and can vote. They will be the mainstream of politics.

托福寫作范文兒童不快樂:

In some countries children become richer, safer and healthier, but they are not happy. Why?What is the solution? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples fromyour knowledge or experience.

范文:

Children will be happy when their family environment is not confusing, and you may as well besure that their happiness does not simply rely on being richer, safer and healthier. In somecountries, children being spoiled one way or another do not appear to be as happy as they arethought to be, due mainly to their parents' wrong attitudes concerning respect and discipline. It is possible that you could make your child happier if you could remember to act like an adultand not a child, and also as a boss and not as a friend that you intend to be.

Naturally, father and mother are responsible for making a child as happy as possible by being aparent in the traditional sense of the word Too often you are inclined to pretend to be like achild to get your child to like you, which is no less than confusing to an immature mind.Chances are that you might be viewed as a child rather than a parent, not knowing that a childactually needs an adult Dad and Mom in the normal environment. By and by, your child will notrespect you, and the lack of respect does not generate happiness because your child needsyou to be a parent, not a child. At this point, a happy child is one who takes the advantage ofnormal parenting, far from playing a childish role. That means that while you must listen to yourchildren and not to ignore them, you should never forget playing the role of a a kissing parentand a scolding parent on different occasions.

Likewise, a child is not happy if discipline is missing at home. You ought to act like a boss andtell your children when they do wrong and correct them, and even punish them if necessary, because this could help make a child happier at heart. It may be said that a happy child is onewho is taught to distinguish what is the right thing to do and what is not. In other words, young children in particular need parents to have authority to run the family governmentproperly, otherwise the situation might turn out to be confusing sometimes. These days, thereare cases in which children seem to be in charge, as this can be seen in the way parents obeytheir children. Also, it is not uncommon nowadays that the parent-child relationship isapparently based on peer friendship rather than family discipline, thus allowing a child to feellike an "unhappy" commander-in-chief in the family.

As an adult and boss, both parents are supposed to understand that their children could beeven happier if they are asked to follow the rules regarding respect and discipline. Of course, money, safety and health are always important to childhood happiness; nevertheless, a childshould be treated strictly as a child without causing any confusion. For that matter, youcannot expect a very confused child to be very happy, can you?
